Welcome to Costa Rica - Guapiles

One of the finest natural areas in the New World, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Truly a naturalist's dream with an incredible diversity of animals and plants, this tiny country is home to more than 800 species of birds, orchids and other spectacular plants, caimans and crocodiles, howler monkeys, three-toed sloth's and possibly the most spectacular bird in the American tropics the resplendent quetzal. Not only is Costa Rica's flora and fauna diverse, it is well protected by a world renowned national park system, and well studied by a long series of scientific investigators. Lying between 2 continents, each with its unique plant and animal diversity, Costa Rica is a land-bridge where species of the 2 continents meet and intermingle.

Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge near Guapiles is a small but well visited, Dutch family-run Bed & Breakfast that focuses on those people who want a life-rainforest experience. Located only one hour East from San José (and a easy one and a half hour drive from the airport Juan Santamaria in San Jose.) Casa Rio Blanco is located 7 kms west of the town Guápiles. You will see our big yellow roadsign on the main highway towards Limon. Within a 2 hour drive to the beaches of the Caribbean Coast, easy access to the small village Tortuguero, (the most important nesting site of the endangered green turtle in the Western Hemishpere (www.cccturtle.org), Casa Rio Blanco is an ideal base for exploring this intresting part of Costa Rica. The famous 'La Selva Biological Station' at Sarapiquí (Organization for Tropical Studies, www.ots.ac.cr) is a 40 mnts drive from here. The Rainforest Aeral Tram is only a 15 mnts drive from us. Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge is situated in 5 acres of lush green rain forest with walking trails to a rustling river and incredible tropical gardens. Relax while viewing sloths and toucans from your private porch. Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge has a small educational centre with information about wildlife, plants, insects and rainforests. Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge offers a beautiful shady hammock area to relax, surrounded by our botanical garden. A birdwatcher's paradise, over 300 species different are recorded here. Ask for our up to date birdlists! This is truly a private paradise: three fresh water springs for delicious drinking water and a secluded swimming hole in the lush rainforest.

Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge comprises a large main stone house and 4 wooden cabins. The house has 2 guest bedrooms with each their own bathroom, a spacious entrance, a lounge with a bar open to the stunning garden and a Costa Rican diningroom. Casa Rio Blanco accommodates a maximum of 16 people to provide individualized attention and better wildlife viewing opportunities. Prices includes a full breakfast. Comfortable cabins with a private porch overlooking the canopy will give you outstanding bird watching and picture opportunities.
