We are located 1 1/4 hour east of San Jose, 12 km east of the Rainforest Aerial Tram on the Rio Blanco, 1 ½ km off the main highway from San Jose to Puerto Limon. Greenwich Mean Time GMT Standard time zone -6.0 - Elevation: 883 feet, 269 meters.

Drive direction San José for about 14 kilometers. Take the turnoff 'la Uruca'. At that roundabout you take the 3rd exit, which is ¾ of the roundabout (note you will drive under the highway) At the 1st traffic lights: turn right. Continue driving direction San José (try to stay in the middle lane). After garage Mercedes/Jeep/Chrysler you will see a Shell gas station, keep to your right (you will pass the Shell station left of you). Keep driving until traffic lights at white-orange gas station 'Service centro': turn left. After traffic lights is on your left another gas station 'Tournon': turn right = direction Guadalupe. Immediately turn left (bus Terminal del Caribe is on your right) then you have to go right a bit, but keep going left. Then make a turn left and merge in on a busy road and drive straight via traffic lights on to HWY #32 direction Guápiles-Limon >> (FYI; this drive from the airport should be about 40 minutes, depending traffic. Before entering the Braulio Carillo NP you have to pay toll; CRC 350 = USD$0.65. following is also for cars coming from Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui/Arenal-La Fortuna:) >> After the Rio Costa Rica on HWY #32 you´ll see after about 2,0 km a town sign 'La Marina' 500 Meters after this you see a well lit dirt road on your RIGHT. Take this dirt road BEFORE the bridge over the 'Rio Blanco'. Drive straight up for ONLY 1000 meters (=1 km/0.65 mile) You'll see our sign on your right and find Casa Rio Blanco on your left after a long security fence, overgrown with bamboo and hibiscus, and behind green+black gates. (FYI; this drive will take about 50 minutes coming from San José, 40 minutes from Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui and about 2 hours coming from volcano Arenal-La Fortuna)

By CAR from Caribbean beaches/Limon/Siquirres/La Pavona-Tortuguero =+1hr boat:
Take hwy 32 to San José, let Guápiles pass at your right and just go further straight. About 7 kilometers after that Guápiles turn off, you'll see a big green gas station on your right: 'Service-centro Rio Blanco 24h' 100 meters after that gas station you cross the bridge over the 'Rio Blanco'. AFTER that bridge you immediately turn LEFT into the well lit dirt road. Drive straight up for ONLY 1000 meters (=1 km/0.65 mile) You'll see our sign on your right and find Casa Rio Blanco on your left after a long security fence, overgrown with bamboo and hibiscus, and behind green+black gates. (FYI; La Pavona and Limon is a 1 1/4 hrs drive, Siquirres is about 40 minutes)

By BUS coming from San Jose (approx. 1 hour ride = USD$2.70/CRC1360)::
Take the bus at Terminal del Caribe in San José to Guápiles (we recommend a taxi coming from the airport to this terminal for about CRC14000/USD$28.00) Ask the bus driver to let you out just before the bridge Rio Blanco ('Por favor para antes el puente Rio Blanco, gracias' - remind him after the Rio Costa Rica) and walk the dirt road UP for 1000 mts (=1 km/0.65 mile) or see taxi info below.

By BUS coming from the Caribbean beaches (2 1/2 - 3 hours):
Take the bus to Limon and switch bus for direction Guápiles (= in another terminal) .

By TAXI from the Guapiles main bus terminal (9 kms; about CRC6000/USD$12.00):
Tell the taxi driver: 'Casa Rio Blanco Ecolodge, por favor. Está a un kilometro sur del Puente Rio Blanco (cerca La Marína). Gracias.'

By CAR coming from Limon/Tortuegero:
Take highway 32 to San Jose, pass Guapiles at your right and just go straight on direction San Jose, you'll cross a few rivers (the last one before 'Rio Blanco' is the 'Rio Danta'), about 6 km after the Guapiles turn off you see a big green petrolstation at your right with the name: 'Servicecentro Rio Blanco' and a big 'Castrol' sign. 20 meters after that petrolstation you pass the bridge from the Rio Blanco (there is no 'Rio Blanco'sign). After that bridge you immediatly turn left into a dirtroad (only the entrance is dark). Go straight for about 1200 meter and you'll find Casa Rio Blanco on your left.

Dear Annette and Herbie,

First off to say what a wonderful time I had. THANK YOU so much! It really was everything and more of what I hoped it would be. I look forward to returning soon and will be more in touch about that.
My trip home was long and tiring but I was able to sleep quite a bit of it which made the 16 hours go by a bit more quickly (the worst part actually was the three hour layover in Houston, I thought it'd never end.)
It was great to become friends with both of you so quickly. Annette, indeed you are the most wonderful Inn Keeper in the World.... certainly the most fun... which counts for a whole lot! I'm so enjoying the hot sauce...and we do have to do something with that to make our fortunes along with Lizano!

Dear Annette and Herbie

We are finally back and settled back in. Our return trip took 2 days, with first airplane mechanical trouble , then floods and mudslides but all is well and we wanted to thank you do much for letting us stay at your place, we will be back one day! that cabin, the open screen ,the wall of sound from the river and the forest, the birds, my god. Sorry that we came with so much 'baggage'. There was a lesson for us all, whether we wanted it or not!!!!!!!!!My apologies!!!!!
Thank you for you hospitality, your food and help!!
(The drive back was a piece of cake!)

Hello from me as well!

I'm thinking of your beautiful kitchen as I clean out the pantry...(a good thing to do at the beginning of the year, I think...) Back to work tomorrow. These past couple of days I've been reviewing our trip in my mind and always come back to your place. Definitely the highlight for me... the beauty, the intensity of sound, the insistence of Nature....ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. And now all the questions from our friends!!!! Thank you so much for the respite from the craziness of our group in our little "romantic cabin"!
I wish for you both to have a prosperous, relaxed, invigorating new year.
love, Debra

Hola Annette and Herbie:

We just wanted to say hello and to thank you for a glorious time at Casa Rio Blanco. We feel that we have made new friends with you and that our friendship will last for many years. Herb will be back in October to sign the papers for the land but it will be a brief trip as he and his brother will leave from Costa Rica to go to Bolivia to see Camila, our daughter. But, we will be back there in August for three weeks so we will definitely see you then. We can have you to our place for dinner and a party!

Our love to you both. Please write when you have a chance,
Chris and Herb

My wife Karen and I stayed with you on July 6th. We're back in the US now and just wanted to tell you that we really enjoyed your place. Next time we're in Costa Rica we'll definitely stop in again. Hope all is well and take care.

Hola Annette and Herbie!

How are you? I hope all is well in Costa Rica. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lovely place, and had a wonderful time celebrating your birthday together. The rest of our trip was incredible as well, with a beautiful wedding on Playa Cocles, good times with the families, turtle-watching in Tortugero, and finally some relaxing time in Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park.

Please write back soon when you have the time...

All the best,
Sarah and Nils

Thanks for the outstanding hospitality,

Annette & Herbie: Hello, friends, just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed my stay at Casa Rio Blanco earlier in the week. The beauty of the lodge and the natural environment, along with your friendliness and attention to detail, made for a wonderful stay. I was serious when I said I would be interested in taking care of the lodge while you are traveling, or if you just need a break from the work, so please feel free to contact me in the future if such a situation should arise. Take care and enjoy your life in paradise.

p.s. Annette: if you enjoyed the DaVinci Code, be sure to read Ian Caldwell's The Rule of Four.

Dear Annette and Herbie, Thank you so much for such a lovely vacation. We will talk about you and your lovely home for many years and encourage everyone we know to visit. We were very happy to get home after our 14 hr. day in airports and airplanes. Our "pitiful" tulips and daffodils are in full bloom and all of our trees are starting to bud, so spring is finally coming to Iowa and we are delighted. The most amazing thing to me about Costa Rica (besides the two of you) is the fact that there are no mosquitoes. That really makes it paradise. If you ever come to Iowa--be sure to let us know.
Sincerely, Mary

Dear Annette and Herbie, we had unfortunately land in cold north. But we had not forgotten the days in Yuors accommodation. In comparison with the others hotels You had been the best one. The ambience and Yours charm. We had ever seen very much accommodation not only in Costa Rica.
We hope, You are well and if You would fly over Germany here is our address:
We would be glad, to hear something about You.
We had written to Know how travel guide too.

Annette and Herbie, Thanks again for the awesome time in Guapiles. Here are some of the travel sites we talked about. It would be great for your business to get on a few of these web sites. Let me know if you want a "visitor's comment" for a testomonial!
Good luck!
